1. If more than image.png of the squares will contain an o, then 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 of the squares will contain an o. The rest will contain x’s, and so 4, 3, 2, 1, or 0 of the squares will contain an x; NOT sufficient.

2. Since each of the 4 corner squares will contain an x, the number of squares that will contain an x could be 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9; NOT sufficient.

 

Taking (1) and (2) together, from (1), the number of squares containing x’s will be 4, 3, 2, 1,

or 0, while from (2), the number of squares containing x’s will be 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9. Therefore, the number of squares containing x’s will be 4.

 

The correct answer is C;

both statements together are sufficient.
